Lions Public Health Care
CHANGES IN PLACE
LIONS NSW-ACT Sight & Health Foundation Annual Raffle Results:
Thanks to all the Lions Clubs in the “N” Districts for your participation this year.
The Health Foundation objectives are:
To promote, advance and assist the research into the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of illness, sickness, and afflictions of all kinds.
Sight related projects are only part of the work being carried out by Lions Clubs throughout the world, and it was soon realised that the general health of the community was also in need of assistance.
Following the success of the Lions NSW-ACT Save Sight Foundation, the Lions Clubs NSW-ACT Health Foundation was formed in 2023.
The Foundation is owned by the Lions Clubs of the five Districts ('N' Districts) in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory (NSW & ACT).
Each 'N' District is represented by three Directors and the District Governor of the day.
The Directors are elected by delegates at each ‘N’ District Convention to serve for three years on a rotational basis. The District Governor serves during the term of his/her time in office. Directors are eligible for re-election at the end of their term.
Grants approved by the Foundation assist clubs in the purchase of equipment for hospitals and individuals, training of medical personnel, printing of medical publications, etc. All grant applications must conform to the Foundation’s guidelines.
Previous grants have included Foetal Heart Monitors, electric wheelchairs, hospital beds, dialysis machines and much needed health related equipment. They have also included ambulance services and university research. The community has benefited greatly from purchases or funding by the Lions Clubs NSW-ACT Public Health Care Foundation.
The Foundation, since its inception in 1981, has provided funds of more than $4,000,000 in grants. This funding comes from the interest earned on the capital of the Foundation.
Unlike the Save Sight Foundation, the Public Health Care Foundation covers a much larger area of health projects.
